Endocrine care
Our experienced team of endocrinologists and endocrine surgeons specialise in treating a range of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions, including hypothyroidism, thyroid cancer and diabetes.
About endocrinology
We treat patients with a range of endocrine conditions including diabetes, disease of the thyroid and parathyroid glands, adrenal disease, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Our endocrine unit is well-established and has been treating patients for over 20 years.
Our endocrine team includes consultant endocrinologists, consultant endocrine surgeons and diabetes experts who are leaders in their fields. They are supported by specialist nurses and dietitians.
Our endocrine multidisciplinary team meet regularly to discuss complex cases. This means each case is reviewed by a whole team of experts, so you can be given the best possible diagnosis and treatment. The endocrine multidisciplinary team is led by Prof Fausto Palazzo, Consultant Endocrine Surgeon.
Endocrinology
Endocrinology is the field of medicine that relates to endocrine glands and the hormones that are produced in them. Conditions relating to glands and hormones can be complex and difficult to identify, often needing specialist tests and examinations before a diagnosis can be made. Our specialised endocrinology team work closely with colleagues across the hospital to diagnose and treat a wide rangy of endocrine conditions.
Endocrine surgery
Our endocrine surgeons work within a multi-disciplinary team of specialists to provide the best possible service for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of all endocrine surgical conditions. The team includes specialists in medical endocrinology, radiology, anaesthesia and pathology. The lead surgeons also head up endocrine surgery units at high profile London teaching hospitals, and have been using laparoscopic ‘keyhole’ techniques for endocrine surgery for over 15 years
Related endocrine conditions
Our private endocrinologists can treat patients with a range of endocrine conditions, including:
Thyroid conditions
The thyroid gland, in the neck, produces a vital hormone called thyroxine. The gland may be overactive, underactive, form nodules (abnormal tissue) or enlarge to cause a swelling in the neck (goitre).
Parathyroid conditions
The parathyroid gland (also found in the neck) produces the parathyroid hormone (PTH). If too much of this hormone is released, it can cause problems with tiredness, abdominal pain and pancreatitis.
Adrenal conditions
The adrenal glands are small glands, found at the top of the kidneys, that produce adrenaline and cortisol. If you have an adrenal gland disorder, the glands may not be making the correct amount of these hormones, causing nodules or tumours.
Pancreatic disease
The pancreas is a small organ, found behind the stomach and below the ribcage, which produces the hormone insulin.
Salivary (parotid and submandibular) disease
The parotid and submandibular glands make up the salivary glands found in front of and below each ear. Lumps can develop, causing discomfort for patients.
