Children's general surgery
We offer conventional and minimally invasive surgical procedures to treat a range of childhood conditions.
Overview
Our Skyline children-only ward provides a caring and secure environment for children and young people who need surgery.
We have advanced clinical facilities for simple and complex procedures and as well as supporting treatments and therapies.
Our team of leading paediatric surgeons carry out a range of procedures including appendectomies, circumcision, and the removal of skin and neck lumps.
They are supported by a team of paediactric nurses, therapists, and play specialists, who look after the emotional and physical needs of the children they treat.
Skyline ward
Our Skyline ward has 14 en-suite bedrooms as well as a daycare area with toys and activities. Our play specialist uses creative ways to prepare children for their procedure and encourages them to talk about any concerns they may have.
The Rainbow operating theatre is attached to the Skyline ward so children and young people don’t have to come into contact with the main hospital. Parents can accompany their child until they have their anaesthetic and then see them again in the recovery area.
As part of our admissions assessment we are careful to only admit children to our Skyline ward when we are sure we can meet their needs safely.
Our inpatient service is complemented by a consultant paediatric intensivist and we are confident that if any of our children deteriorate, our high level clinicians will be able to stabilise the child quickly and decide the most appropriate place for their ongoing care.
Please note, that as we do not have a paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) on-site, we may need to transfer your child to a PICU at another hospital including the NHS.
