Patients and visitors / Day patients
Before your stay
You might be feeling anxious about coming to hospital, but preparing for your visit should make you feel a little better.
Before your admission, we'll send you an email confirming your admission date, time, and location. Please read this carefully and note any specific instructions.
Please follow all instructions given to you by your consultant, or during pre-admissions, especially around fasting.
Please avoid drinking alcohol and smoking 12 hours to your admission time.
Please use the antibacterial shower gel that was given to you at the pre-admission clinic on the morning of your procedure.
You are allowed two visitors during your stay in hospital.
Pre-admission clinic
You will be asked to attend our pre-admission clinic, one to four weeks before your admission date. This may be via telephone or in-person.
At our pre-admission clinic, we will carry out all necessary tests ahead of your stay. It’s also a chance to complete admission paperwork in advance, and for you to know what to expect.
All of this leads to a smoother admission on the day of your procedure.
At the clinic, we will:
- carry out blood tests and any other tests your consultant has ordered so they have the results in good time ahead of the procedure
- record your weight, height and medical history
- screen certain patients for MRSA
To arrange an appointment at the pre-admission clinic, call +44 (0)20 7460 5700.
Opening hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm on Saturday.
What to bring
On the day of your admission, you should bring the following with you to hospital:
- comfortable, loose clothes to wear after your procedure (you do not need to bring pajamas as we will provide you with a gown)
- your mobile phone, books, and magazines
- any prescribed or non-prescribed medicines you are taking, in their original containers – please continue to take all medication unless otherwise advised
- relevant medical information, such as medical records, X-rays, or scans
- your insurance or sponsor details, including a pre-authorisation number or letter of guarantee
- a credit or debit card
Please leave valuable items – such as jewellery, large sums of cash, or extra bank cards – at home.
