Although you'll have a lead consultant guiding your treatment, our cardiology services also benefit from the combined knowledge of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Clinical Nurse Specialists

Our clinical nurse specialists (CNS) have an advanced knowledge of cardiovascular conditions, allowing them to provide exceptional care for patients.

Cardiac physiologists

Our cardiac physiologists carry out cardiac tests, such as ECGs and device checks, as well as assisting in cath lab procedures, like angiograms, ablations and device implantations.

Cardiac radiographers

Our cardiac radiographers are experts in imaging of the heart and assist our consultants with minimally invasive, image-led procedures.

Cardiothoracic physiotherapists

Our cardiothoracic physiotherapists provide outpatient support to individuals with various cardiothoracic conditions, such as asthma and pneumonia.

A cardiologist is a doctor who has specialised in the diagnosis and treatment of the cardiovascular system (the heart and surrounding blood vessels).

A cardiothoracic surgeon is a doctor who has specialised in the surgical treatment of cardiothoracic conditions. This could be a condition relating to any organ in the chest cavity, such as the heart, lungs, esophagus and major blood vessels.

Because cardiology is a complex field of medicine, there are many types of cardiologists with different specialties. These include:

  • Interventional cardiologists: Experts in invasive but non-surgical procedures for treating coronary artery disease and valve disease 
  • Electrophysiologists: Experts in the electrical activity of the heart 
  • Congenital heart specialists: Experts in heart conditions that have been present since birth 
  • Cardio-oncologists: Experts in cancers that affect the heart and blood vessels 
  • Preventative cardiologists: Experts who advise on preventative measures for patients with a higher risk of developing a heart condition
