We provide a range of leading treatments, which are delivered by experienced specialists using the latest, state-of-the-art technology.
In the event of an unexpected cancer diagnosis, your care will be guided by our expert multidisciplinary team which contains some of London’s top specialists.
Endometriosis is a condition where tissue, similar to the lining of your womb, starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bowel, bladder, and sometimes lungs.
Treatment options include hormone medications or surgery, including the excision of endometriosis tissue or surgery to remove part or all of the affected organ (such as a hysterectomy). At Cromwell Hospital, this can be done laparoscopically using robotic-assisted technology.
A mastectomy is an operation to remove a breast, and is an effective treatment for breast cancer.
There are different types of mastectomy. During a radical mastectomy, the entire breast is removed, as well as the lymph nodes in the armpit. During a simple mastectomy, your surgeon will remove all of the breast and most of the skin covering it, while preserving the surrounding chest muscles and lymph nodes.
The aim is to remove any cancerous tissues from your breast and surrounding areas, preventing the cancer from returning or spreading.
After a mastectomy, your surgeon may be able to use body tissue taken from elsewhere on your body to reconstruct the shape of your breast.
One such procedure is deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEP) flap reconstruction, so-called because it uses a ‘flap’ of muscle, usually taken from your belly.
A hysterectomy is an operation to remove your womb (uterus). This is often used as a treatment for cancer. It may also be recommended for conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids, where other treatments haven’t worked.
We provide different types of hysterectomy:
Systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) is the use of drugs to treat or control cancer. This includes cytotoxic chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, hormone therapy, or a combination of these.
SACT is delivered within our Macmillan-accredited chemotherapy day unit, which provides a comfortable, relaxing, and modern environment for patients.
Radiotherapy can be used to destroy tumours, to shrink tumours before surgery, or to kill off remaining cancer cells after surgery or chemotherapy. It is also used to treat the symptoms and control the spread of cancer.
At Cromwell Hospital, our partnership with GenesisCare means we can provide some of Europe’s most advanced radiotherapy services.
MonaLisa Touch® is a non-hormonal, chemical-free treatment to address vaginal atrophy (atrophic vaginitis).
Vaginal atrophy is the thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls that can occur with a drop in oestrogen. A reduction in oestrogen can be caused by the menopause but can also be a result of treatment for some gynaecological cancers or breast cancer.
A hysteroscopy is a procedure to examine the inside of your womb to diagnose or treat any problems.
If you are experiencing symptoms such as unusual vaginal bleeding, heavy periods, pelvic pain, or difficulties getting pregnant, a hysteroscopy can help to investigate, diagnose, and treat the problem.
A myomectomy is used to remove non-cancerous growths (fibroids) from the wall of your womb.
Your gynaecologist might recommend a myomectomy to remove fibroids that are causing symptoms, such as heavy or painful periods, abdominal pain, bladder problems, and more.
Oophorectomy is a surgery to remove one or both your ovaries, while salpingectomy is a surgery to remove one or both your fallopian tubes.
These may be carried out as a treatment for ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or non-cancerous ovarian tumours and cysts.
We also provide:
- ablation of thyroids
- Bartholin or sebaceous cyst removal
- hormone implant therapy
- polyp removal
