About Professor Adrian Wilson
Professor Wilson’s clinical interests include alternative treatments to surgery such as orthobiologic injections, including stem cell treatment. He has pioneered several patented techniques in both osteotomy and knee ligament surgery.
Professor Wilson also has a particular passion for complex knee conditions, offering tailored solutions for patients with ligament injuries, cartilage damage, and early-stage arthritis. His contributions to the field include numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations, and live surgical demonstrations at international conferences, where he regularly trains other surgeons in advanced surgical techniques. He often has visiting fellows training under his guidance.
In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Wilson has served as a consultant and educator within the NHS, holding senior positions at Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Trust where he was a consultant from 2005 to 2016. At the North Hants he set up a tertiary referral center for complex knee issues where he also supported the development of advanced orthopedic services across the region.
Whilst at the North Hampshire Hospita,l Professor Wilson set up an osteotomy training course which has trained thousands of surgeons both in the UK and Globally. This course now moves around the world and is a gold standard for the training of surgeons in the field of osteotomy surgery.
Adrian collaborates with the Manchester Metropolitan University where he has a chair.
Professor Wilson was the first surgeon to perform an all inside ACL reconstruction at the german arthroscopic national meeting in Garmisch 2010. He went on to refine the technique and develop the instruments which are now used in hospitals daily around the world. He introduced the concept of using an internal brace to support a ligament reconstruction and patented this technique.
Adrian has published over 100 peer review articles and multiple book chapters. He has presented his work at over 400 international meetings over the last 15 years.
Through extensive travel and research, Professor Wilson has formed a group of globally recognised orthopedic surgeons who have tailored and adapted their approaches together. They work together in theater in the UK to offer their patients the most advanced pioneering techniques to manage complex conditions.
One of his most recent focuses includes the rapid recovery hip replacement technique. This approach has been advanced and modified by Dr Kley who collaborates with Professor Wilson on a daily basis. This minimally invasive method preserves muscles and tissues, enabling patients to experience shorter procedure times, reduced risks of complications, and faster post-operative mobility. Patients often walk unaided within a day and leave the hospital much sooner than with traditional methods.
With a career spanning over two decades, Professor Wilson is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care while advancing orthopedic practices globally through research and innovation.
