After taking a random PSA blood test (wife insisted even though I was showing 0 symptoms!) I received a shock PSA result of 12.7 in October 2023. Following this, to be fair, my GP and subsequent follow up treatment from the NHS were great (apart from the TP Biopsy!) until on December 1st 2023 I received the devastating news that I had contracted early stage(3/4 Gleeson) Cancer on one side of my prostate. The NHS options to treat the condition, for a man of 58, were not great, hormone, radiation or full prostectomy frightened me to say the least so I checked my medical insurance policy to see if I maybe eligible for private treatment. I was. An online search revealed a Mr Raj Nigam's name as being a consultant who specialised in a procedure called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) proven to treat early stage Prostate Cancer. The following weeks took me from an initial consultation with Mr Nigam to receiving HIFU treatment in January 2024. Throughout 2024 I attended 13 week follow up blood tests and consultations with Mr Nigam to monitor how effective the HIFU would prove. In February 2025, after seeing PSA levels fall steadily over the previous year, I now have a count of 1.22, pretty good erectile function (if I say so myself!) and almost as importantly, complete bladder control (even after a few pints of beer!). A recent MRI scan has also proved no spread of the disease to any other areas, lymph nodes, bladder or kydneys! The treatment I have received from Mr Nigam and his support team has been nothing short of fantastic. From MRI result analysis, treatment selection, HIFU procedure and follow-up appointments I couldn't recommend Mr Nigam more highly to anyone!
