MonaLisa Touch® is a non-hormonal, chemical-free option to address vaginal atrophy (atrophic vaginitis). Vaginal atrophy is the thinning, drying, and inflammation of the vaginal walls that can occur when someone’s body has less oestrogen.
A reduction in eostrogen can be caused by the menopause but can also be a result of treatment for some gynaecological cancers or breast cancer due to surgical removal of ovaries, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and inability to use hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
The MonaLisa Touch® is an innovative laser procedure, designed and produced by DEKA, that delivers fractional CO2 laser energy to the vaginal wall tissue.
The treatment takes less than five minutes and is delivered at Cromwell Hospital in a comfortable and private outpatient setting. Recovery time is minimal, and patients can return home the same day.
“The introduction of MonaLisa Touch® allows women more choice of treatments options for vaginal atrophy and will be particularly useful for those who are not able to use hormonal medications. This is an important inclusion to our women-centred gynaecological services at Cromwell.” Ms Archana Dixit, Consultant Gynaecologist
MonaLisa Touch® is suitable for most woman wishing to prevent or treat the vaginal symptoms due to oestrogenic decrease (in menopause, after a childbirth, or after a cancer treatment).
