About Miss Elizabeth MacCann

Elizabeth MacCann is a specialist dietitian at Cromwell Hospital working predominantly in critical care. She also provides outpatient services supporting patients and clients experiencing gut symptoms, having worked with hundreds of patients with a variety of gut-related disorders.

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Surrey in 2019 with a BSc in Nutrition & Dietetics. She has developed her practice in a range of different specialties both in the NHS and privately, in medical, surgical and chronic conditions.

Elizabeth began her career at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge as a graduate dietitian working in head and neck oncology department, providing both inpatient outpatient specialist dietetic input for those with head and neck cancer. This provided her the opportunity to develop her skills in home enteral feeding and supporting individuals with texture modified diets as well as being a key member of the wider multidisciplinary team in the head and neck treatment pathway.

Elizabeth was then successfully recruited to the role of specialist gastroenterology dietitian at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge where she gained extensive experience in this specialism. It is there where she developed her passion for gut health and working closely with individuals to improve their gut symptoms through dietary adaptations to improve their quality of life. Some areas of particular interest to her are IBS, low-FODMAP diet, functional dyspepsia, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, endometriosis, diverticular disease, SIBO and dietary education for those living with ileostomies and colostomies.

Elizabeth has also worked in London-based NHS Trusts including Kings College Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in various specialities including stroke and neurorehabilitation, hepato-pancreato-biliary team, surgical, haematology, weight management and women’s health.

Elizabeth joined the team at Cromwell Hospital in August 2024 and has a keen interest in participating in service development and contributing to department policy. She regularly undertakes Continued Professional Development and is an active member of the Critical Care Specialist Group and Gastroenterology Group at the British Dietetic Association.
