About Dr Ankur Gulati

Dr Ankur Gulati is a highly experienced consultant cardiologist. His NHS practice is established at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Lewisham Greenwich NHS Trusts, where he cares for patients with all types of cardiac problems, such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high/low blood pressure, dizzy spells and blackouts. His primary specialisation lies in the treatment of coronary artery disease, particularly through coronary stenting. However, he has a broad knowedge base, having also developed additional sub-specialist expertise in cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy, through dedicated fellowships and research.

He graduated from Cambridge University with a triple first class honours degree, and was selected to undergo further training at Harvard Medical School, where he was awarded High Honours for his Cardiology sub-internship. Having gained all his junior doctor posts at nationally acclaimed teaching hospitals across the UK, he completed his specialist cardiology training at centres of excellence in London, including Barts Heart Centre, Royal Brompton, and University College London. His advanced coronary stenting skillsets have been further validated by intensive fellowship training at reputed PCI centres in the UK and abroad.

Dr Gulati's research work, conducted at the Royal Brompton Hospital, has revolved around the role of MRI in evaluating patients with heart failure. His ground-breaking contributions to this field have received worldwide attention, and resulted in numerous first-author publications in prestigious international journals such as JAMA, JACC, and Circulation. He earned his MD degree from Cambridge University and was honoured with the International Young Investigator of the Year Award from the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.

Dr Gulati strives for excellence. He is one of the few interventional cardiologists of his generation to hold dual accreditation in both cardiology and general internal medicine. As a result, he has the ability and dedication to contextualise patients’ cardiac issues and evaluate non-cardiac causes for their symptoms. His holistic personable approach ensures that his patients receive well-rounded, compassionate, and individualised care that respects their wishes and prioritises their well-being.
