BreastAbout Dr Shiroma De Silva-Minor
Dr De Silva-Minor graduated from University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff in 1995 and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1999. Having chosen to specialise in Clinical Oncology, she trained as a specialist registrar in London, working at nationally renowned cancer centres including UCL The Middlesex Hospital, The Royal Free and The Royal Marsden Hospital. In 2003, Shiroma became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) in 2003.
During a fellowship in Head and Neck Radiation Oncology at the prestigious Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Shiroma was awarded the Prize for Academic Excellence by the institution and The University of Toronto for her research into the use of PET CT for identifying head and neck tumours for radiotherapy treatment.
Shiroma has presented her research at international conferences including The Annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists (CARO) in British Columbia and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Colorado and in Philadelphia and at the European Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO).
As a Clinical Oncologist, Shiroma oversees the whole non-surgical aspect of a patient's journey, from genetic testing and counselling through to treatments including chemotherapy, external beam radiotherapy (including partial breast treatment), intraoperative radiotherapy, PARP inhibitors, CDK4/6 inhibitors, and clinical trials.
