About Dr Sunil Patel

Mr Sunil Patel is a consultant physician who specialises in respiratory, general, and intensive care medicine.

He has extensive experience in all aspects of general respiratory disease but holds particular interests in interstitial lung disease and respiratory failure, which includes the investigation and diagnostic workup of patients with cough, shortness of breath, and difficulty in breathing. He regularly performs diagnostic bronchoscopic procedures, including bronchoscope assisted biopsies, as well as pleural interventions.

Dr Patel is also accredited and dual-qualified in intensive care medicine, which involves caring for patients after major/complex surgery and those who are acutely unwell.

He has conducted PhD research at Imperial College London, focusing on critical illness associated muscle wasting and inflammatory mechanisms of muscle wasting. He also has interests in long-term effects of critical illness.
